The latest statistics on suicide from the Australian Bureau of Statistics were released 31st March 2015. The following data is 2013 in Australia.

250 people (approx.) make a suicidal plan every day in Australia.

1000 people (approx..) think about suicide daily.

1,885 males suicided 16.4 per 100,000.

673 females suicided  5.5 per 100,000.

75% of people who died by suicide were males.

38.3 per 100,000 were over 85 years of age.

Suicidal rate is approximately twice as high for aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders compared to non indigenous people.

99 Aboriginal and Torres Strate Islander males suicided in 2013 and 39 females.

Highest age specific suicide rate is 85 plus.

Next highest is 45-54.

Next highest is 15-19.

Lowest is 0-14.

50 – 54      8.4%

35 – 39      7.5%

45 – 49      7.5%

60 – 64%   7.3

Highest age specific males:

85 + 38.3% per 100,000
